PLANTS IN THE GARDEN

 

Nomocharis x finlayorum

After several years where we have collected plants, the garden is about to be closely packed with plants. But not all of them are rare. Most of the plants are growing well in peat or sandy rockgarden. The few places where it is common soil we have particular planted Paeonia, Hosta, Helleborus and Iris.

Cardiocrinum cathyanum

This plant is a rare species of Cardiocrinum from China. It has more fragmented flowers than the more familiar C. giganteum. Cardiocrinum flowers only each 5.-6. years, after flowering the bulb will die, but before it sets new small bulbs. It has big, lush, glossy leaves, which may be attacked by snails and small red beetle.

Is endemic on the island of Crete and is regarded by some as a subspecies of Anemone hortensis. In the nature, can the flowering begins in February-April.

Androsace belons to the great Primulaceae family. Many Androsace is difficult to cultivate, including A. pubescens. It comes from the European Alps and require a well-drained, stony soil in full sun.

Asarum is a species in the botanical family Aristolochiaceae. Several species coming from Asia, mostly from Japan and China. One species is found in Europe and five in  the North America. A. maximum come from China and it has evergreen, gray marbling leaf. The ruddy flower is shown in the spring.

There are a about seven species of Nomocharis. It is a bulb plant from China, Burma and India. N. aperta flowers in June-July The colour of the flower can be red, pink or pale yellow. They grows in a well drained peat bed in light shadow.

A group of strong, hardy hybrids between N. pardanthina and N. farrerii. Requires the same growing conditions as the other Nomocharis.

I have made this Nomocharis from seed. The seeds is collected by Jens Nielsen. He has several times been on a expedition to China to collect seeds.

A white form of Crinum x powelli. A beautiful plant which will have up to 4-8 large trumpet flowers and large decorative leaves. I have planted the bulb on a sunny place and in good garden soil.

The genus Crinum  includes  100 tropical or subtropical plants, mostly bulbs. Crinum macovani needs, as the other  members of the genus,  well protected habitat and is more delicate than the well known Crinum x powelli.
