Hepatica,
belonging to the Buttercup family, is a small genus consisting of only 5 to 9
species. It grows easily in woodland with deciduous trees. Some species growing
wild on limestone, others grow in peat soil, but they can all like growing in a
good leaf mould.

Hepatica nobilis There most common species. It grows in Europe, Asia, Russia and America. Beautiful gloss full green or sometimes marble leaf. Flower colours are normal blue, but can also be red, pink and white and all shades in between. The flower is usually 7-petalled, but may vary and may even be double. |

Hepatica transsilvanica Occurrence in Hungary and Romania, where it occurs on steep slopes in deciduous forests, more dry conditions than H. nobilis. The leaves, there are rare over the winter, is toothed, 5 lobed and lighter green than at H. nobilis. The flower is more light blue and larger than that of H. nobilis. As at H. nobilis, there are pink, white and double forms, and many varieties name. Lime-loving as H. nobilis. |
